![]() Along with this, the sport became known as wushu. In 1958, the All-China Wushu Association came to be via an appointment from the government. In essence, this turned aspects of it into a sport. Those who stick to the code of Xia and follow a chivalric code are often in the white way, those who do the contrary are in the black way. Given this and more, in the mid-1900s the Chinese government attempted to nationalize and standardize the practice of martial arts in China. In most cases, Wulin is divided into black and white ways. (The game's european version is called Age of Wulin.) Wulin dwellers are those who know some types of martial art or even martial art masters. Wulin, refers to the smaller microcosm within Jianghu. In Jianghu, people experience love and hatred, joy and sorrow, reunion and parting they choose to adhere to the code of Xia (right the wrong) or deviate from it. Talking about Jianghu, literally meaning “lakes and rivers”, is the sub-community in which Wuxia stories are set. It is a unique genre and particular to Chinese culture, because Wuxia is rooted in the ancient Chinese social milieu in which a combination philosophy of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism prevailed. Then what is Wuxia? Wuxia, literally meaning “martial arts chivalry”, is a prominent component of popular culture of all Chinese-speaking areas.
